A SUPERMARKET was evacuated after a bomb threat.

Police and the fire service were called to Asda Blackburn yesterday evening following reports of the threat.

Store bosses took the decision to evacuate the store shortly after the call was made - and sounded the fire alarm.

The supermarket's own security staff searched the store but no explosive device was found.

No arrests have been made in connection with the incident.

A police spokesman said: "We were called at 8.37pm yesterday to reports of a bomb threat at Asda on Grimshaw Retail Park in Blackburn.

"The store decided to implement an evacuation. Officers attended and a search of the store was carried out. It was confirmed to be safe and shoppers and staff were able to re-enter shortly after 10pm.

"Enquiries are ongoing to establish the source of the call."

A picture circulated on social media showed one fire engine and one police van in an otherwise deserted car park at the store on Lower Audley, Grimshaw Park.
