WITNESSES are being sought after a man was left with serious injuries following a three-on-one attack in Blackburn.

Police say the victim, aged 38, was walking along the rear of Westbury Gardens and Audley Range, just before midnight on Thursday, when he was assaulted.

Not only was he kicked and punched by the trio but it is also thought he was struck with a bat or stick.

The victim has told police his attackers were Asian, of small to medium build.

Two of them wore hooded jackets and it is believed that they left the scene in a small dark-coloured vehicle.

He was left with serious injuries, including a bleed on the brain, a collapsed lung and broken ribs.

Sgt John McNamara, of East CID, said: "This has been a nasty attack which has left a man with significant injuries and our thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery.

"We are working hard to identify who is responsible but I would appeal for the public's help.

"If you have any information, or CCTV that you think could help with our investigation please come forward."

The victim was wearing a bright yellow jacket at the time and had travelled to the area from Peronne Crescent.

Police have confirmed that they have stepped up patrols in the area, to reassure residents.

People with any information are being asked to call 01254 353627, or the non-emergency number 101, quoting log number 1568 of January 30.
