ONE HUNDRED per cent success - that was Accrington Victoria Hospital's proud record in 1968's nursing examinations.

Months later a presentation of certificates, badges and prizes were awarded to the nurses, as show in this picture, taken on May 15, 1969.

Around 150 people attended the ceremony where Matron Miss Ellison thanked staff for giving lectures and instruction.

There was also a pat on the back for the pupils, particularly the married ones, who the Matron said worked hard and studied in spite of home commitments.

She said they had recruited 21 pupils and only four had left the profession. This compared favourably with the previous year when seven left out of 21 recruits.

A happy Miss Ellison said: "I feel we have progressed."
