A MAN has been charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm after an early-morning street attack involving a baseball bat.

Police were called to Edgar Street, Accrington, at 4.30am on Friday, where a 48-year-old man was found unconscious in the street.

He was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Following the incident a 32-year-old man from Accrington was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Detectives have now confirmed that on Friday evening Daniel Halstead, 32, of Bobbin Close, Accrington, was charged with wounding Paul Sanderson with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm.

He appeared before Lancashire Magistrates yesterday morning and was remanded in custody to appear at Burnley Crown Court on February 27.
