A VAN crashed into a telegraph pole after colliding with a car.

Police were called to New Line, Bacup, following a smash involving a white Transit van and Vauxhall Astra at around 5.20pm today.

The van veered off the road and careered into a telegraph pole, which snapped and fell onto the vehicle.

Officers closed the road in both directions for three hours while they waited for telecommunications company, BT, to remove the pole and wires from the area.

The road reopened at around 8.10pm and no one has been reported injured.

A police spokesman said: "New Line in Bacup has now fully reopened in both directions, thanks for your cooperation whilst we dealt with this incident."
