WORK on a £300,000 flood relief scheme in Barnoldswick is set to start next month.

Pendle Council revealed the work to install a new culvert beneath the Ghyll Meadows estate, which suffered major flooding in 2002, will start on February 11.

It was threatened by flooding on Boxing Day 2015.

Cllr David Whipp, who has campaigned for the relief work since the homes were flooded, said: "I’m delighted that we’re able to get on with putting the final pieces of the jigsaw into place.

“Residents will have much greater peace of mind once this work is done.

“Going back about a dozen years, we got a new larger culvert under part of the estate, this kept the area flood free until it was threatened again in 2015.

"The work about to begin will see larger pipes installed along the full length of Valley Drive and under Skipton Road."
