Rovers Ladies took home bragging rights, and moved in to the final of the Lancashire FA Challenge Cup, after a 3-0 win over Burnley.

Goals from Lagan Makin, Natasha Flint and Alex Taylor secured a safe passage into the final, where Rovers will play league rivals Fylde Ladies.

The scoreline didn’t reflect Rovers’ dominance against the Clarets, who failed to trouble goalkeeper Danielle Gibbons throughout the game.

It’s the 15th successive year that Rovers have reached this stage of the competition, and Gemma Donnelly’s side will be looking to lift the trophy for a record 13th time.

In front of a crowd of 550 at Padiham FC, chances were few and far between early on as the home side set up a defensive wall on the edge of their area.

Rovers did have opportunities through Makin, who couldn’t find the target from Taylor’s cross, and Kayleigh McDonald, who was unable to get a strong connection on Jess Holbrook’s corner.

But Makin opened the scoring with a terrific strike midway through the first-half. The ball fell to the wing-back who volleyed the ball over the keeper and into the roof of the net.

The same pattern of Rovers pressure continued in the second-half. Lynda Shepherd and Jess Holbrook combined well on the edge of the area before the latter’s shot was well saved by Bracewell.

Rovers had the ball in the net again when Saffron Jordan slid in to get on the end of Flint’s shot, but the offside flag was raised to disallow the goal.

But Rovers weren't denied for long as Flint doubled their advantage, latching onto Holbrook’s pass before smashing the ball home from the edge of the area.

Taylor made the game safe with 15 minutes remaining, getting on the end of Fenton’s pinpoint cross to volley into the top corner.

The Blues attempted to add further gloss to the scoreline when Fenton and Flint both took aim from distance, but couldn’t hit the target.

Burnley did have one chance to get on the scoresheet, capitalising on a defensive error on the edge of Rovers’ box, only for Priestley to sky her shot over.

Rovers return to league action on Sunday, when Sheffield FC are the visitors to Bamber Bridge (2pm).
