Tony Mowbray admits he faces tough decisions over who to leave out of his squad once everyone is back fit.

Rovers are yet to add to their ranks during the January transfer window and have seen Kasey Palmer recalled by parent club Chelsea before being loaned to Bristol City. However, Lewis Travis and Joe Nuttall have become bona fide first team players during the last month.

Jack Rodwell and Corry Evans returned to the fold at the weekend, after illness and injury respectively, to take the places of Dan Butterworth and Joe Grayson in the matchday 18.

Charlie Mulgrew and Derrick Williams weren’t involved because of injury, but could return against Hull City on Saturday, leaving Mowbray with the call over who to leave out.

There are 10 days remaining of the transfer window, but throughout, Mowbray has continued to stress he isn’t ‘anxious’ over the possibility of not making a signing this month.

“There are conversations and we’re waiting on some answers to propositions,” the boss said when asked for a transfer update.

“As I’ve said before I’m not anxious about it, but if we add then great.

“I look at my board and if Mulgrew and Williams are back who’s not getting on the bench? There will be two players who wouldn’t feature.

“Nuttall would have been one of those in the last few months but he has scored two goals in his last two games so he will have to be involved or on the bench.

“Some senior players will have to miss out in the weeks to come which is good for a coach.

“As long as they all buy in to the fact it’s a squad game and we can rotate a little bit and look after them but hopefully win as we go on.”

Business has been slow going in the Championship for most clubs, but there could well be a flurry of late deals before the window closes next week.

Harrison Reed is now Rovers’ only loan player after Palmer’s departure, and Mowbray has hinted at the possibility of loan to buy deals, as he did with Ben Brereton in the summer.

On the state of play, he added: “We’re halfway through the month and as I’ve said it can be difficult unless you’ve got loads of money to throw at it.

“You put a valuation on a player.

“As time runs down and they are possibly stuck at a club then those numbers become more affordable.

“We might do some deals.”
