BURNLEY striker Chris Wood felt the Vicarage Road point was one gained for the Clarets in their quest for Premier League survival.

Sean Dyche’s side returned from Watford with a 0-0 draw which maintained a three point gap to the drop zone and extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games.

It could have been even better for the Clarets had Wood not seen a stoppage time effort incorrectly ruled out for offside, but the frontman was taking the positives from a strong Burnley performance.

“It’s unfortunate,” the 27-year-old said of his strike being ruled out. “But we will get paid back in the long run.

“It's a very good result, especially when you consider where they are in the league. They're a very good side, it's a very good point and we're more than happy with it. We could have had more but that's how it goes.

"It's always a point gained, always. It's a tough place to come, they're a very good side, they're doing very well.

"We are delighted. It's a step in the right direction but there's still a long way to go. We're always looking up the table, it's the best way to do it.

The tide appears to have turned for the Clarets in recent weeks and Wood, who has three goals in his last five games, believes Burnley are recapturing the form that saw them achieve a seventh place finish last season and a place in the Europa League.

While the continental competition may have harmed the Clarets in the early stages of the season, Wood believes the hard work is paying off as Burnley seek to climb further clear of danger.

He added: “The team is working well, we've got back to where we were last season, everybody has their ups and downs over the course of the season. Ours came at the start but now we're working hard to get back to where we should be.”

And while Wood couldn’t add to his season tally of six goals at the weekend, he is confident that if the chances keep coming then they will eventually be converted.

He added: "We've got a great team playing great football at the moment. They're putting on some great chances so as long as we keep that going then we'll always have chances.”
