Motorway police were called to a crash involving four cars which closed both sides of the M65.
The incident, which took place on the eastbound carriageway near Burnley, between junctions nine and 10, happened around 2am on Sunday morning.
At 3.05 this morning North West Motorway Police tweeted: "There is a Police led incident near #Burnley closing the #M65 westbound between J11 and J10 + eastbound J9- J10.
"Closures are in place and Highways England are assisting us. We will keep you updated. Please bear with us."

By 3.30am, the incident had been resolved and all lanes were reopened to traffic.
No one is thought to have been injured as a result of the crash.
