IT was once ‘the’ place to go on a night out in Blackburn – often the last bar of the night before heading on to a club.

Toffs was a much-loved institution in the town centre – and now people have been sharing their memories of the Lord Street bar.

Situated right next to the Cavendish/Peppermint Place/Utopia (as its name changed over the years) it was the perfect place to gather everyone together before making the move on to the nightclub.

Of course, Lord Square, a much-lamented feature of Blackburn’s town centre, was demolished to make way for the Mall extension more than 10 years ago.

And with it went Toffs.

Who can remember queuing up outside Peppermint Place and the white tiles of the building?
