A 39-year-old man has been charged with murder, after the body of a grandmother was found in a house in East Lancs.

Shaun Sanders will appear before Preston Magistrates' Court on Saturday, January 19.

Leanne Unsworth was found dead in a house in Marlborough Street at 7.15pm on Monday January 14.

On Tuesday, police arrested two men in Wythenshaw on suspicion of murdering the 40-year-old.

Sanders, of no fixed address, was charged on Friday evening but the second man, a 38-year-old from Burnley has been released with no further action.

Temp Det Chief Insp Zoe Russo, said: "Our thoughts remain with Leanne's family and friends at this sad time.

"I would like to thank everyone who has supported our investigation.

"We continue to appeal to anyone who has information to come forwards. If you can assist our enquiries, please contact police."

A post mortem examination revealed the cause of Ms Unsworth's death to be head injuries.

On Wednesday Ms Unsworth's family released a statement in which they said: "Leanne was a well loved daughter, mum, niece and grandma who will be sadly missed. As a family we are trying to come to terms with this tragedy and kindly ask that you respect our wishes for privacy."
