TORY Brexit rebel Nigel Evans has explained why he voted against Labour’s vote of no confidence in Theresa May last night.

On Tuesday night the Ribble Valley MP joined 177 Conservative colleagues to help inflict a 230 vote defeat on the Prime Minister over her deal for the United Kingdom to leave the European Union

But last night he voted in favour of Mrs May staying in Ten Downing Street when Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn tried to trigger a General Election in the wake of Tuesday's record House of Commons defeat.

Mr Evans said last night: "I voted against the Brexit deal on Tuesday because I had no confidence in that deal.

"I voted against Labour's motion tonight because I have confidence in the Prime Minister to go back to Brussels and negotiate us a deal that honours the referendum result to leave the EU.

"I have no confidence in Jeremy Corbyn and Labour to do that.

"They have no coherent policy on Brexit."
