BABY Mihan Vasta couldn’t wait to say hello to the world – he was born in the back of his dad’s car on the way to hospital!

Mum Sonal had gone into labour – but when she called the hospital from home, midwives told her there was no rush to get there as she sounded far too calm for birth to be imminent.

Mihan knew differently, however, and was born in the back seat as dad Vikesh desperately tried to get to the Royal Bolton in time.

Mrs Vasta, aged 35, was all set for a water birth but her almost unnatural calm during her labour meant hospital staff were unaware as to how far along she was.

She said: “I’ve been going to hypnobirth classes. It’s all about meditation and taking yourself away from the situation.

“While I was in labour I was doing my yoga and what I’d been told in hypnobirth classes, keeping my breathing going.”

When her contractions were four times a minute Mrs Vasta called the hospital.

She said: “I tried to explain, I’d been doing hypnobirthing and yoga.”

The hospital told her she could come in if she wished and with her husband driving they set off with her in the back seat from their home in Somerton Road, Breightmet.

About two miles away in Hacken Lane Mihan, the couple’s first child, was born in the moving car.

As Mr Vasta was driving, he did not know his son had been born and kept telling his wife to “remain calm”.

Mrs Vasta said: “I pulled him up and got him to cough. The cord was round his neck, it was quite scary.

“We were nearly at the hospital and the midwives came running out, they were fabulous.”

Mihan was born on November 30 weighing 7lb 5oz.

Mrs Vasta said: “Everything went as it should, as if I’d been in hospital.”

The family are now happy and healthy together at home.
