A SEVEN year old boy with a muscle-wasting, life-limiting disability, has been gifted a specially designed bed from two good samaritans to help his family cope with his condition.

Charlie Busby from Clayton-Brook, who suffers from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, received the profiling bed last Wednesday, when Great Harwood fundraisers, Mickii Edwards and Krish Singh, turned up at his house to surprise him.

And Charlie's mum, Leanne Witts, said the addition of the bed to their family home has 'taken a big weight off their shoulders'.

Miss Witts said: "We had a bedroom and bathroom put on the back of our home over a year ago which has helped our family massively as it is adapted for Charlie's needs as his disability gets worse.

"Despite having the extension, we still needed what's called a 'profiling bed' for Charlie, as normal beds are too low for me to help him with his physio and a profiling bed improves his posture and helps him sleep better."

Last year, Miss Witts and her partner Matt Busby, who have another son, Harry, 4, who also suffers from the same condition, set up a Just Giving page to help raise the funds needed to buy two profiling beds for the boys.

The beds, which are specially designed adjustable units, cost around £1,500, and when Mr Edwards found out about the family's needs, he knew he wanted to help.

Mr Edwards said: "I've been fundraising for over ten years now and do a lot of work with Derian House, who help to look after Charlie and his brother Harry, and they put me in touch with the family.

"Me and a few friends did a Santa Dash through Great Harwood just before Christmas and used some of the funds raised from this, as well as money from our own pockets, to purchase the bed."

Miss Witts, 39, said Charlie, who also suffers from Aspergers and ODD (oppositional defiant disorder), was really excited when he got the bed.

She added: "It's taken a big weight off my shoulders. I can't thank Mickii and Krish enough as it's made a big difference already. We just need to raise the money to buy Harry a similar bed now, so that both our boys can be more comfortable.
