THE proud parents of a 17-year-old college student have surprised her with the news she's gained a place at the prestigious Oxford University.
Olivia Bourne, who is studying for her A-Levels at St Mary's College, was accepted onto a Biochemistry degree course at Brasenose College, Oxford University.
Mum Emma Kearney and her husband, Olivia's comedian stepdad Colin Manford, who run the Black Dog pub in Oswaldtwistle, received the fantastic news on Wednesday, when her parents arrived at the college to present her with the acceptance letter.
Olivia, from Oswaldtwistle, said: "It’s a dream come true to get a place at Oxford. I can’t believe I’ve actually done it. It proves hard work pays off. I’m over the moon."
Olivia, who is studying biology, chemistry and maths at St Mary's, said her future dream is to delve into the intricacies of gene therapy.
Head of guidance at the college, Diane Sellars said: "This is fantastic news. Olivia has always been a very proactive student.
"As well as her stellar academic achievements she has taken part in a range of extracurricular to enhance and compliment her university application."
