A MAN was hit on his leg and hand in an early morning hammer attack.

Police were called at around 12.40am on Friday morning to reports that a man had been robbed on Avenue Parade in Accrington.

When they arrived, officers found a 32-year-old man had been hit with a hammer before having his wallet stolen.

A 27-year-old man was arrested close to the scene on suspicion of robbery and he remains in custody.

A police spokesman confirmed that the man had been taken to the Royal Blackburn Hospital but was not thought to be in a serious condition.
