HOSPITAL staff and residents attended a special service to commemorate the memorial garden at a hospital before it moves to a new location.

The memorial garden, based outside the children's unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital, will move to a landscaped location in the hospital grounds in the coming months.

Relocation of the memorial garden will make room for a new outdoor play area for the children's ward, which will begin construction this week.

Hospital chaplain Reverend David Anderson conducted the service within the memorial garden with a touching eulogy from bereavement lead nurse Erin Bolton.

“We understand what the garden means to people and the service was an important mark of respect to those who have been remembered there,” said Reverend Anderson.

“By relocating the garden – and keeping as much of the existing soil, bricks and decorative stones as possible – we will ensure the existing memorial garden endures for a long time to come.”
