A LORRY driver was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving after a crash which killed a 14-year-old boy and a woman.

The crash, involving a lorry, minibus and several other vehicles, happened on the westbound section of the M58 near Skelmersdale at 9am on Tuesday.

Police said several other people were in hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the lorry, a 31-year-old man from Chorley, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Shortly after the initial crash a second collision took place, involving a lorry, a van and a car. A woman and two men were seriously injured in that.

The motorway remained closed on Tuesday evening.
