A SOUTH Korean who travelled over 5000 miles to watch his favourite team, Accrington Stanley, was a surprise guest on BBC One's Football Focus.

Stanley supporter Jung Min Yoo was interviewed on Saturday's lunchtime show by BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker at the Wham Stadium.

Mr Walker was presenting the football show live from Accrington as part of the public broadcaster's preview of the FA Cup third round weekend with Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson and Arsenal women's footballer Alex Scott.

The BBC team toured the stadium, visited Stanley's changing rooms and interviewed chairman Andy Holt along with some of the players, staff and fans, including 25-year-old Mr Yoo.

Towards the end of the 60-minute show the Hankuk University student was interviewed inside the Reds Bar, where dozens of fans had gathered prior to the home side's afternoon FA Cup tie against Ipswich Town.

Mr Walker said: "Give this man a round of applause. He has come 5,000 miles from South Korea."

Wearing an Accrington Stanley tracksuit, Mr Yoo was given a microphone and questioned about the reasons behind his affiliation with the East Lancashire football team.

The Seoul man said: "I saw an article on the BBC about good owners of football clubs and I decided to support Stanley when I learnt about the work of Andy Holt - his philosophy and club management."

During the short interview photographs and tweets of Mr Yoo's first trip to Stanley, from December 29, were displayed on TV screens, where the Stanley fan had the misfortune of watching his team lose 4-0 to Peterborough United.

His experience at the Wham Stadium was much better second time round as Stanley went onto beat Paul Lambert's men 1-0 and became one of 32 teams to reach the FA Cup fourth round.

Mr Yoo was left the stadium with a parting gift Accrington Stanley Supporters' Club, a personalised football shirt with his name on the back of it. The South Korean student has now jetted home to south Asia following his nine-day stay in the UK.

Speaking about his time on the BBC, he said: "I was a bit embarrassed but it was ok. Staff at the BBC treated me warmly and it was an amazing day."
