ROADWORKS will affect the two main motorways through East Lancashire this week, Highways England has confirmed.

Plans to resurface the M65 between junction three at Withnell and junction four at Eccleshill are scheduled to begin from tonight.

Officials from Highways England say the westbound carriageway will be affected over the next fortnight or so.

Road closures will be in place overnight, Mondays to Fridays, between the two junctions, with signposted diversions being put in place.

Further repair work is also ongoing along parts of the M66 and A56, over the same period, the agency has reminded drivers.

A spokesman said that the operation to replace safety barriers in the verges and central reservation between the M66 junction one at Ramsbottom and the point where the motorway meets the A56 is continuing.

Some overnight closures of the route, in both directions, will be required, for the repairs, between 8pm and 6am, with diversions also being advertised locally.
