A TEACHER has spoken of his devastation after his first ever car was smashed up by a mindless yob.

Daniel Boardman, 24, had only purchased his £5,400 Volkswagen Up from Arnold Clark in August, after recently passing his driving test.

But he was shocked to find it destroyed on Boxing Day morning after parking it up at St Mark's Conservative Club, Preston Old Road, Blackburn.

Mr Boardman, who works as a teacher in Luton and had travelled back up north for Christmas to visit family in the Witton area of Blackburn where he is from, has obtained CCTV footage of the incident from the St Mark's club, which he described as disgraceful.

The clip begins with the vandal picking up a beer barrel and hurling it at the side window of the car parked at the club.

He then picks up the barrel again and hurls it at the windscreen of the car during the incident at around 10pm on Christmas Day.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The vandal, wearing what is believed to be a Stone Island jacket, Lacoste t-shirt, joggers and trainers, then chucks the barrel once more at the windscreen smashing it in the process.

Footage then shows him putting his arms up in the air and showing off before getting away in a black Honda Jazz.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Mr Boardman said he has been told the car is a write-off as it had been left needing a new roof and back panel.

He said: "I'm devastated as I had only purchased the car in August and had loaned it from Arnold Clark on a finance deal of £7,000 over four years, so it has incurred a lot of cost for me.

"It's just disgraceful that anyone would do something like this and it's totally uncalled for and unprovoked."

He said the police had been informed about the incident but said he was disappointed at their lack of response.

He added: "This incident was reported immediately and the police logged it but they haven't even assigned an officer to look at it, this despite there being CCTV footage showing what happened.

"It's disappointing and I'm being left inconvenienced getting to work as I can't afford a car."
