A MAN who couldn't go home because he had been drinking tried to book into a hotel for the night.
Blackburn magistrates heard Farakh Khalid claimed he was turned away because he didn't have enough money.
But Andy Robinson, prosecuting, said police were called because Khalid was drunk and not welcome at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel and Spa, Clayton-le-Moors.
Khalid, 30, of Whalley Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.
He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge.
Mr Robinson said police were told by staff at the hotel they wanted Khalid to leave because he was drunk but he was refusing.
He was spoken to by a police inspector and told to leave and initially complied.
He then came back, used a homophobic slur against the officer and threw a punch at him.
Khalid was pepper-sprayed before being arrested.
Khalid told the court he had not had a drink for five months and because he had consumed alcohol couldn't go home.
"I went to the Dunkenhalgh but I only had £50 and they wanted £80," he said.
"I just refused to leave."
