A MAN has been taken to hospital after he was found with facial injuries.

Police came across the 37-year-old at the junction of Walton Lane and Glenfield Road, Nelson at around 4.30pm today.

Paramedics were called after the victim was found to have minor facial injuries from an assault. He was later taken to Burnley General Hospital.

Duty inspector Chris Valentine said officers are currently conducting CCTV enquires to find out what has happened.

A public appeal has now been made on Facebook following reports a large group of youngsters were present at the time.

A police spokesman said: "We are aware of an incident that took place at around 4.30 this afternoon on Walton Lane junction with Glenfield Road, Nelson.

"We believe a male has been assaulted at that location and a large group of youths were present at the time, we are aware not all youths present are responsible for this assault but urge anyone present to come forward with information as well as any passers by. Our investigation into this matter will continue."
