EAST Lancashire could be hit with fog ahead of New Year’s celebrations, forecasters say.

The Met Office has said the weather will be generally cloudy and dry in Blackburn, Darwen, Ribble Valley, Hyndburn, Burnley, Pendle and Rossendale today and tomorrow.

Temperatures could reach the heights of 10 degrees, which means party-goers will be able to enjoy a mild climate for this time of year.

It comes after the Met Office warned the evenings would be 'rather murky and damp' across parts of East Lancashire over the Christmas period.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “It expected to be windier today, with some rain early on, otherwise remaining generally cloudy and mainly dry through the weekend and on New Year’s Eve.

"Northern areas however will see some rain at times and will often turn windy. It will remain mild throughout, with any frost limited.

"On New Year's Day there is the chance of some rain across parts of the north west, but there will also be a good deal of dry weather around, especially in the south.

"However, there may be some fog lingering throughout the day."
