MORE than £17,000 was spent on a town’s Christmas lights switch-on.
Darwen’s festive event cost £17,500, which included payment to artists, staging, production and security, a freedom of information request revealed.
Blackburn with Darwen Council commissioned UK Media and Events to deliver the event and bosses say they do not hold an exact figure for the amount of money paid to Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle for her visit on November 17.
A council spokesman said: “We do not hold a figure for the amount paid to Ms Coyle for her appearance at Darwen. The cost of the event as a whole, including all the artists was £17,500.”
