SHOPPERS in Lancashire are planning to avoid single-use plastics this Christmas to help prevent waste damaging animals.
A poll by the RSPCA revealed more than two-thirds of people are trying to cut down on things like straws or carrier bags, with a further 38% saying they would choose gifts with less packaging.
The RSPCA have received more than 600 calls this year about animals and plastic, one of which, was about a horse in Lancashire with 10ft of plastic tangled around its hoof.
RSPCA Assistant Director Dermot Murphy said: "We see too many animals suffering due to the litter we throw away. It’s great news that shoppers are planning to be kinder to animals this Christmas in the choices they make and this could make a real difference to whether the animals around us also stay happy and healthy this festive season."
