CHARLIE Taylor believes the Clarets are getting back to being Burnley despite suffering a late defeat to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Christian Eriksen broke Burnley's resistance with an injury time strike to give Spurs the points.

The result, coupled with Southampton's win over Arsenal on Sunday, sent Sean Dyche's side back into the Premier League's bottom three.

But Taylor, who played on the left of a back five at Wembley, felt there were signs that the Clarets are rediscovering the form that carried them to seventh and a Europa League place last term.

“After holding on for so long and then to concede in injury time is horrible," said the full back.

“But we are looking more like a typical Burnley team over recent weeks.

“We got a good result and a clean sheet last week (against Brighton) and again we got so close against a top side, so there were definitely positives from our point of view.”

The Clarets return to north London this weekend when they visit Arsenal and Taylor knows full well that Burnley will need all their battling qualities to return to East Lancashire with a positive result.

“It’s another top team right in form at the minute, so we will have our work cut out,” he added.

“But we will put some together this week on the training ground and try to put in a similar performance.”

Taylor admitted the manner of the Spurs loss was tough to take but felt the Clarets' new defensive shape paid off.

Dyche opted to field Kevin Long, James Tarkowski and Ben Mee as central defenders with Taylor and Bardsley in the full back positions as Burnley played a variation of 5-4-1 and 3-4-3.

And the 25-year-old felt the formation switch worked well.

“We worked on it in training this week and it went perfectly well,” Taylor, told the club's official website.

“We were set for what would have been a great point at a very tough away fixture.

“It’s absolutely gutting. In terms of losing a game, it’s the worst way you can possibly do it."
