A YEAR after they had split a man turned up in his ex-partner's front garden, covered in blood and shouting at her to get her boyfriend outside.

Blackburn magistrates heard that later the same day Callum Heaton attacked a car as a couple were about to drive off and after police arrested him he head butted one of them.

Heaton, 22, of Cog Lane, Burnley, pleaded guilty to assaulting an emergency worker, criminal damage to a car and using threatening behaviour.

He was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months and made subject to a community order for 12 months with 20 days rehabilitation activity requirement and 150 hours unpaid work.

He was ordered to pay £100 compensation to the police officer, £100 compensation to the car owner and £50 to his former partner.

Philippa White, prosecuting, said the former partner was at home with her boyfriend and son when Heaton appeared in her front garden in an intoxicated state and covered in blood.

He was shouting for her boyfriend to come outside and then started kicking the door and head butting the window. He left before the police arrived.

Later in the day a man and his partner were getting into their car of Cog Lane when they saw the defendant kicking a door and shouting.

He approached the car and started punching the passenger side window and then kicking the car. The owner drove away and after checking the damage called the police and returned.

Heaton was pointed out to the officers and arrested.

"He was aggressive and abusive and as he was being put in a cell lunged forward and head butted an officer on the side of his face," said Mrs White.

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said his client was deeply ashamed of his behaviour.

"That isn't helped by the fact he doesn't have a great deal of recollection of the incidents," said Mr Taylor. "When the police became involved he clearly lost hid temper. This is not the normal way he conducts himself."
