A BEAUTY salon owner had the worst possible start to her birthday on Saturday after finding out her shop had been burgled.

Kia Craig is counting the cost of damage to her business after Lyndhurst House Hair and Beauty on Lyndhurst Road in Burnley was broken into at 1am on Saturday morning.

The 24-year-old insists between £500 and £1000 worth of goods remain missing but police recovered two bin bags of goods worth a couple of thousand pounds.

She said: "I just got up at 8.30am to see a text message from the police with a log number to contact them after my shop had been burgled.

"They had smashed through one of the windows and they had damaged the CCTV cameras.

"A neighbour had contacted the police because they had seen someone in the shop.

"Two people got away but police searched the area and found one man and arrested him as he was out of breath after running in the area."

Kia insists they are shocked by the burglary as the shop has only been open a week.

She said: "It is awful. No-one expects to wake to hear that your shop has been burgled.

"We only opened on December 5 and there are eight other girls who work with me.

"We have families who we are trying to provide for and it is hard enough to pay for things then this happens.

"They took eyelash extensions, gift sets, botox equipment too but the two bin bags have been recovered.

"There are still a lot of items missing but I have been told that there was another salon Rick's Barbers which was broken into on Saturday night or Sunday morning.

"You don't think it is going to happen to you but I am aware that you need to be vigilant and watch out for each other.

"We are only a small business and it is not like the girls are earning thousands of pounds.

"The police have taken the hard drive with the CCTV on it and they are going to be reviewing it to try to find the people who did it.

"Also they found some blood at the scene so forensics are looking at that and they hope to find a match."

Insp Chris Valentine, of Burnley Police, said: "We got reports from a member of the public that a burglary was in progress as people were witnessed inside the shop.

"Within minutes dogs units and police attended. Two males were seen running off in the direction of Higher Tentre.

"But a 38-year-old-man was arrested near Aldi.

"Some of the property that was stolen has been recovered which were beauty boxes in particular."
