A new inflatable playground has landed in Burnley.

Air Unlimited, which sits on a 10,000sq ft site just off Plumbe Street officially opened on Friday, and we sent Lancashire Telegraph reporter, Amy Farnworth down to see what all the fuss is about.

"For as long as I can remember I've been a fan of playgrounds. As a kid I used to relish a go on the monkey bars and loved clambering all over those massive outdoor climbing frames - Jungle Jims was my mecca and Wacky Warehouse was THE place to be seen on a Sunday afternoon (according to my nine-year-old self).

"But since I've become a fully fledged adult (begrudgingly), kid's pastimes have, for want of a better word, passed me by - I've never been trampolining and I haven't tried out Go Ape, which my friends think is pretty tragic.

"So, when given the opportunity to act like a big kid again, naturally, I jumped at the chance.

"Air Unlimited is massive - it includes a sports zone with football pitch and basketball court, climbing wall with drop slide, half pipe ninja wall, turbine tunnel and much more. And it's all inflatable, like one gigantic bouncy castle.

"It's a kid's (and adult's) dream.

"Walking into the converted warehouse on Plumbe Street, I was greeted by the specially trained staff who know a thing or two about bouncing - some can even backflip on the inflatables (which put my ridiculous efforts to shame).

"Paying my fee and collecting my grip socks, I was then issued with a coloured band, and away I went.

"Bouncing into the huge arena like a giddy kipper, I was shown all the different elements Air Unlimited has on offer - first up I tried my hand at the balls, which, if you've ever watch Total Wipeout or Ninja Warrior, look easy to navigate.

"I can tell you, they're not. And I magnificently managed to fall off on the first bounce.

"Next up was the weird bouncing wall, which again, I failed at, fabulously.

"And finally I tried the drop slide, which is accessed through a ball pool and huge inflatable steps - more to my taste and definitely good fun, especially when you have the option to jump from high and crash land onto a gigantic airbag. Inflatable fun has never been so good.

"After just 15 minutes bouncing, I was slightly out of puff and by the time I regained my balance I was ready for another go, but unfortunately, my boss was clock watching and I had to return the the office without even attempting to negotiate the turbine tunnel or ninja wall - probably best to leave that to the real kids anyway.

"Overall, the experience at Air Unlimited was fab. It's a great way to entertain children, and it's certainly fun for adults too."

Everything you need to know about Air Unlimited

Air Unlimited is the brainchild of dad-of-two, Calum Heyes, who injected a six-figure investment into the former Pegasus Drop Zone on Craven Street, which unexpectedly closed in September 2017, leaving some local families without a children’s party venue.

Mr Heyes said: "Burnley needs this as a focal point for families in the area. There’s so much good stuff happening in the town and we’re really looking forward to being a part of it."

Mr Heyes, who also owns a trampoline park in Liverpool, said his nine-year-old daughter, Amelia, and two-year-old son, Hudson, were the inspiration behind the business concept.

He said: "As a father of two young kids, I was getting fed up with the same old play centres.

"I wanted to create a play park that my children would like, and that would cater for them at every stage as they grow up.

"Air Unlimited Burnley is purely an inflatable playground, the likes of which the town has never seen before.

"We’re so pleased that we’re open in time for Christmas – the team has been working all the hours possible to convert the building and make this happen.

Air Unlimited sessions last for an hour and cost £7.95 when booked online, or £9 for a walk in session, but for just £10, customers can increase their bounce time to two hours.

The centre caters for adults, with over 18s sessions available every Saturday night, and it has also has special sessions reserved for children with autism on Sunday mornings and Monday evenings.

There's a cafe on site and the inflatable playground can also be booked out for parties and events.
