BLACKBURN with Darwen highways chiefs are warning motorists about freezing rain and snow today.
The council posted on their BWD Roads page that they were gritting at 5.30am and 11.30am this morning.
They were expecting snow to fall this afternoon and into the early evening falling over 150m.
A statement read: "Accumulations of around 1-2cm possible above this height, mainly above 300m.
"Outbreaks of rain will move in from the south-west this afternoon, showery at first, before becoming more persistent later.
"While rain will likely fall at the lowest levels for much of the time, with just a little sleet, snow will fall for a time across higher routes with some accumulation likely.
"A period of freezing rain is also possible later in the afternoon, with this likely restricted to higher routes too, enhancing the ice risk.
"It will be very breezy throughout the afternoon and precipitation will be sufficiently heavy for wash-off.
It will also be mainly dry and sunny tomorrow morning.
