A KIND-hearted band have raised hundreds boost awareness for Crohn's disease at a special gig.

Bury rockers Manifesto held a one-off show at Radcliffe Borough Football Club to fundraise for Crohn's and Colitis UK.

The lads were inspired to hold the event as lead singer Jack Johnson's father, Scott, has been diagnosed with inflammatory disease and through his experience feel that the condition has been sidelined by the general public.

Mr Johnson has also been vital in supporting the band and encouraging them to ever greater success.

During the evening the band played a rip-roaring set of covers and one of their own compositions, Easy Without You, with support from Scott Johnson and two Bury artists — singer-songwriter Ben Freeman and young indie-punk band The Monsoons.

Band guitarist, Kian Talbot, aged 17, from Radcliffe, said: "It was amazing. It's probably the best gig we have had so far. Scott was blown away.

"The tickets sold out in less than 24 hours and the whole thing was packed to the brim — a bit different from what we're used.

"Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and were up on their feet, sing and dancing around to all the bands."

Once the final tally for donations came in the band were surprised to find they had raised more than £1,200, including cash given by L'Oréal Paris and the Morrison's supermarket.

Inspired by their success they are now planning to hold further charity events in the future.

Kian, a former Tottington High School pupil, said: "The money is well over what we hoped to get. We only thought we would get a couple of hundred pounds but when we counted it up we were just in shock.

"We are planning on doing one on a bigger scale, but not too near in the future because we don't want to over do it. This one was only 150 people but we feel like we could do even more."

Manifesto, comprising lead singer Jack, guitarist Kian, lead guitarist Chris Wilcock, bass guitarist Lucas Culshaw, and drummer Marcus Stansfield; have have only been together for around a year and regularly play gigs around Greater Manchester.

After a great year they have plans to record and release a number of tracks and to crack the Manchester scene.

Kian said: "We're going to Liverpool soon to record a couple of songs which might go on a mini-album.

"But we're going to put out some singles first and then see where that takes us.

"We're trying to get our name out there and hopefully find us someone who will take us on for a few gigs, and we're looking at gigs in Manchester now to break the next barrier."
