RESIDENTS have warned that traffic levels will increase if plans to build up to 100 homes go-ahead.

Proposals have been lodged to develop land at Milking Lane, Lower Darwen, into houses as well as a careers hub and industrial unit.

Cllr Denise Gee, who represents the area on Blackburn with Darwen Council, said there was concern among people about an increase in traffic from any development.

She said: "There is already a huge amount houses and a school on Milking Lane which lead to a lot of traffic, so to bring more would just create further problems.

"I've had lot of complaints from residents concerned about this and the fact there's no link road in the plans."

The site, part of which comprises the remnants of the former paper mill and two derelict office buildings, was bought as a joint venture between Blackburn with Darwen Council and Barnfield Construction earlier this year.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said the impact of the proposed development on roads in the area has been assessed.
