FEE-fo-fi-fum, Darwen Library Theatre’s in for some fun!

This motley crew will be bringing some giant entertainment to town when Jack and the Beanstalk opens next Sunday.

It promises to be classic family fare for the festive season as Jack, played by Rebecca Davis is sent to the market to sell Daisy the family cow. Instead Jack buys some magic beans which grow into a giant beanstalk and the adventures really begin.

The show has been written and directed by George Critchley of PMA Productions.

He said: “I was delighted to be asked to put on the annual pantomime in Darwen for the 16th year running. The audiences we get every year are one of the reasons that I do what I do.

“The feedback we get from them is amazing and they clearly love what we do.

“It’s all about providing great value for money family entertainment and this year we have put together a high quality cast and we can’t wait to get started.”

For Rebecca Davis who plays Jack, the show’s opening will be extra special, as it marks her first professional role after graduating from the London College of Music.

“I have been in amateur pantomimes before and I just love seeing how much youngsters enjoy the whole experience.”

Karl Greenwood as Billy has one of the key roles in encouraging audience participation.

He’s no stranger to East Lancashire’s panto season having previously worked with George Critchley n shows at Colne Muni and Oswaldtwistle Civic Theatre with PMA.

“This will be my first Darwen season,” he said, “and it’s going to be great. It’s such an intimate space which will really get the youngsters close up to the action. Children are the most honest audience you can get and they’ll certainly let you know what they think. They love to get involved in the story and with Jack and the Beanstalk, there’s going to be so much for them and their families to enjoy.”
