AN extensive exhibition looking back at Accrington's interesting past has opening at the Haworth Art Gallery.

As part of the town square development celebrations, the exhibition pays tribute to the Accrington Pals, Accrington Stanley, cricketer David Lloyd and the textile industry, including manufacturing company Howard and Bullough.

The exhibition has been funded as part of the Heritage Initiative Project, with funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund in partnership with Hyndburn Council and Lancashire County Council.

Cllr Miles Parkinson, leader of Hyndburn Council, said: "This exhibition not only highlights years of work and research to create the new town square, it also celebrated Accrington and its people.

"Hundreds of people played a part and made this possible.

"Haworth Art Gallery is the perfect location, it’s the jewel in Accrington’s crown and people come from far and wide to visit."

The exhibition is open until Sunday February 3, 2019 at the gallery in Hollins Lane, Accrington. The gallery is closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.
