PUPILS with a flare for musical theatre played to sold-out audiences during performances of their latest spectacular, School of Rock.

Staff and students at Accrington Academy turned to the popular film and musical for inspiration, telling the story of Dewey Finn, a failed ‘wannabe’ rock star who winds up posing as a supply teacher at a prestigious prep school.

But Dewey’s love of music soon takes over, converting his pupils to the cause and helping them to form a band.

Taking the lead role in the academy production was Year 13’s Oliver Hussey, with a guest appearance by staff band 'No Vacancy,’ featuring Lee Croniken, Karl Croniken, Joe Tong and Nathan Donnelly.

The cast and crew played to packed houses and even took the musical on stage for a special matinee performance for local primary schools.

Accrington Academy’s Head of School, Nicola Palmer, said that the show was the best one yet.

She said: “We have done it again this year, getting the right mix of students with the right show - and it just worked!

"A huge ‘well done’ to everyone involved for their hard work and dedication."
