THE quality of care at a care service has been praised after it was rated as good by watchdogs.

Staff supported people to have maximum choice and control of their lives at Home Instead East Lancashire, according to Care Quality Commission inspectors.

Watchdogs also said workers at the Blackburn-based domiciliary care service also spoke about the people they were supporting with compassion, respect and sensitivity.

The service, based in Wilkinson Way, was rated good in all areas for its safety, effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership.

It provides care and support to people so that they can live in their own home as independently as possible.

There was 19 people using the service on the day of the inspection on November 5.

A CQC report reads: "People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice.

"The registered manager had a good understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and associated applications before the Court of Protection.

"We did not have the opportunity to observe staff interactions, however, the staff we spoke with spoke about their role and the people they were supporting with compassion, respect and sensitivity."
