BURNLEY'S Premier League home game with Newcastle United will not kick off until 8.30pm owing to a medical emergency at Turf Moor.

The clash, which is being televised live on Sky Sports was due to kick off at 8pm but 20 minutes before kick off it emerged that the start was put back half an hour after referees' assessor Eddie Wolstenholme collapsed in the tunnel.

Wolstenholme was taken to hospital conscious but referee Anthony Taylor and the Premier League decided to delay the start of the match.

Wolstenholme, from Blackburn, was formerly a Premier League referee who retired from officiating in 2003.

Burnley FC tweeted: "Kick off at tonight's game will be delayed by 30 minutes, due to a medical emergency in the players' tunnel. Neither team or their staff are affected.

"The person involved has been taken to hospital in a conscious state."
