A MAN on a mission to help his grandma miscalculated how much he had to drink.
Blackburn magistrates heard Michael Clegg was distracted by a warning light and crashed into a stone wall as he drove over Jeffrey Hill near Ribchester.
And a subsequent breath test showed he was over the drink drive limit.
Clegg, 26, of Durham Road, Wilpshire, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol. He was fined £200 with £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 12 months.
Jonathan Taylor, defending, said Clegg had been to Manchester for a meal with a friend and had one glass of wine. He called in at his grandad's and had another drink before setting off to his grandma's.
"She had a hospital appointment early the following morning and he was going to stay over so he could take her," said Mr Taylor. "As he was driving over Jeffrey Hill a warning light distracted him and somehow he lost control of the vehicle."
