A SENIOR council officer will de dressing up in red and donning beard and his running shoes to take part in Blackburn town centre 's first-ever Santa Dash.

The event on December 9 at 11am will raise cash for the North West Air Ambulance Charity.

Blackburn with Darwen Council's chief executive, Harry Catherall hopes hundreds of fundraisers will take up the challenge with bhim.

For just £10, participants will receive their own Santa outfit for the 5kilmotre run which starts and finishes at Blackburn’s Christmas Market in Cathedral Square.

Mr Catherall said: "It’s fantastic that Blackburn is set to host its very first Santa Dash.

“What a sight it’ll be with runners all dressed as Father Christmas taking to the streets of the town centre to help raise money to support the North West Air Ambulance.

“The run is open to all residents - whether you’re experienced, a beginner or a family looking to get into the festive spirit.”

It has been arranged in partnership between Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council, Blackburn BID, The Mall and Pennine Events.
