A SLIP road has reopened on the M65 near Blackburn following a car crash and formation of black ice.

Motorists can expect delays travelling in and out of the town at junction six near Whitebirk Roundabout.

It comes after several vehicles slipped on black ice on the M65 westbound exit slip road shortly before 6am today.

Later in the morning two cars, a silver and blue Toyota, crashed on the slip road at around 7.35am today.

No-one has been reported injured but police closed the road as you head towards the roundabout to allow the vehicles to be recovered.

Drivers are being diverted to junction five near Guide and Shadsworth, causing extra traffic in the area.  

The exit slip road reopened at 8am after the vehicles were recovered and ice was cleared by gritters.

A Highways England spokesman said: "North West Police closed the motorway slip road because of ice on the road.

"Police are on the scene and the slip road should reopen imminently."

North West Motorway Police tweeted: "Recovery has now been arranged for the vehicles involved.

"Closure in place at westbound exit at junction six - where the black ice i.

"Shouldn't be too long. Gritters have just arrived in the area."
