RESIDENTS of a street in Paddington have been left without internet, TV and phone access after council workers cut through a cable.

Virgin Media customers on Birch Grove have been left without a connection since Thursday, November 8, when Warrington Borough Council workers who were resurfacing the pavement in the area damaged the underground cables.

And the issue won’t be fixed until mid-December - by which time people living on the street will have been without internet, TV and phones for more than a month.

Resident Andrew Woodacre said: “The council came out to re-tarmac the pavement, but they managed to cut through the cable while they were doing it.

“After they did that, they just tarmacked straight over the cable and the access hole.

“The people who did the work clearly knew what they’d done.

“Apparently Virgin are not allowed to touch it without the council being present, and they will only allow them to fix it on December 12.

Andrew has ran into particular problems as he regularly works from home.

He added: “It’s been an absolute nightmare to get anywhere with the council.

“It’s almost like they aren’t interested in sorting it and from what Virgin have said to me, it’s not the first time that this has happened.

“At one point, I was even tempted to just go out and rip it up myself.

“It will have been about five or six weeks without TV, internet and phone by the time it’s all sorted.

“A lot of the time I am working from home and I do overtime at home at night too, but that just isn’t possible at the moment.”

A council spokesperson said “A repair to the footpath outside of the residents property was completed on November 8by the councils highway maintenance contractor.

“We apologise to the resident for the damage caused.

“We have informed the contractor and have been assured that they will be liaising with the resident to get this matter resolved as quickly as possible.”
