AN IMPROVISED stun gun was found in a home during a raid which saw five roads closed-off and homes evacuated.

The pre-planned raid took place at a house on Dall Street in Burnley on November 13 and a 30-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. He was later released pending further investigation.

Police have now confirmed that some kind of stun gun was found at the address.

A police spokesman said: “The items found at the address included what appear to be a form of improvised stun gun as well a number of regular household items that appeared suspicious at first observation but were found to be of no concern.

“We appreciate that the evacuations caused some disruption to people but safety must always be our first consideration.

"The investigation continues in relation to the stun gun item.”

A 100m cordon was in place in the area and residents of evacuated houses on surrounding streets were offered support and shelter at the Burnley Wood Community Centre while police carried out the raid.

Support police squads from as far as Blackpool are at the scene.
