A LANDMARK former cinema and snooker hall in Blackburn has fetched £139,000 at auction.
The building, which is located at the corner of Mill Lane and Mincing Lane, last operated as XS Nightclub which was opened in 2013.
The lot was originally listed by Manchester-based auctioneers Landwood for a price of £125,000, but the building was sold for £14,000 over the guide price when bidding took place on Friday.
It is currently unknown what the new owners propose to do with the building and whether it will remain as a leisure venue.
Cllr Phil Riley, Blackburn with Darwen Council’s executive member for regeneration, was pleased to see that the building had been sold.
He said: “The news of the sale is good news and it shows that people are willing to invest in the town.
“There are bargains to be had in the area at the moment and it is good to see people making the most of that.
“Now it will be a case of waiting to see what will be done with the premises.”
Speaking before the property went to auction, a spokesman for Landwood said: “The property is considered to have development potential subject to obtaining the necessary consents.”
