A TAXI firm manager has spoken out after his cars have been bombarded with eggs while working.

Ishfaq Ahmed, who runs Response Taxis in Darwen, said his drivers had been plagued by a group of around 10 yobs throwing eggs at them.

The vandals have been seen standing near the Lidl store in Duckworth Street and bombarding drivers for around three weeks, Mr Ahmed said.

Mr Ahmed said his drivers are now trying to avoid driving past the store and avoid jobs which go down Duckworth Street.

He said: “It’s really dangerous. If the driver gets egg on the windscreen and tries to wash it off with the wipers it just smears and the driver can’t see.

“The eggs are being thrown hard enough to cause dents and scratches on the cars.

“Some of the cars have had to have a respray because the damage has been that bad.

“We don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s not fun, its not clever, it’s just really dangerous.”

The vandals have been targetting the drivers between the hours of 7pm and 10pm and have been getting more and more boisterous, Mr Ahmed said.

He said: “It’s getting worse.

"When it first started it wasn’t too bad but now it's dark earlier it's happening every day.

“All 15 of my drivers have been done.

“They’re refusing to do jobs on that road because they’re worried they’re going to crash.

“We get lots of calls to the pub and restaurants nearby and it's affecting our business.”

Sgt Jon Cisco said: “Throwing eggs at moving vehicles is a very dangerous thing to do and this sort of behaviour is not condoned.

“Anyone caught throwing eggs will be dealt with robustly as they are causing danger to drivers and passers-by.”
