A charity has been supporting the survivors of the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that devastated the Sulawesi area of Indonesia.

Blackburn UK Trust has been operating for over 20 years in Blackburn and say they have been working in different parts around the world helping and providing basic life needs for the poor and needy.

Blackburn UK Trust's International Project Manager Mohammed Ali Dhorat travelled in October to Pallu and Dongalla taking a 26 hour flight over to help and support these worst hit areas where 2,113 people have died, over 16,000 went missing and over 20,000 were displaced.

Alongside their partners they managed to support 1600 families with a months worth of food supply, that consisted of essentials such as rice, oil, water, milk and tea.

The team also provided the displaced people with 9,000 hot meals.

Mohammed Ali Dhorat said,"The current situation is very critical, people without homes are being forced to sleep outside and are in desperate need of essential support, medical aid is an urgency due to the high demands and medical facilities are unable to cope, thousands of people are still in urgent need of medical attention".

The team will be returning back to Indonesia in January 2019 to continue the support and we appeal to people and our community in Blackburn to continue with their donations and would like to thank everyone for their support and donations that helped us with providing this aid to the people of Sulawesi.
