A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after 'items' were found in a house.

Police officers, including the explosives team, raided the house in Dall Street, Burnley this morning.

Several homes nearby were evacuated as a precaution and roads were closed, police said.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Five streets have been closed and evacuated including Hollingreave Road, Dall Street, Reed Street, Parkinson Street and Brunswick Street. 

There is a 100m cordon in place currently. 

Burnley Wood Community Centre in Springfield Road has been opened up for residents to go to if they need support while they are out of their homes.

Support police squads from as far as Blackpool are at the scene.

Two North West Ambulance Service incident unit vans also attended.  

Supt Richard Robertshaw said: "We have evacuated a number of properties as a precautionary measure but there is not believed to be any immediate threat.

"We will endeavour to return people to their homes as soon as possible."

The police have not confirmed what was found inside the house.

A 30-year-old man from Burnley has been arrested and is currently in custody.

An investigation is on-going.

Danielle Tyler, who was evacuated from her house in Dall Street, said: "I saw the police coming in and out of the house in the morning. "There were lots of police about."

Nick Boyd, who was evacuated from Dall Street, said: "I saw all the flashing lights outside my house, I went outside and the police told me to leave immediately.

"I've got pets in the house.

"I've been told there's a community centre open for us."

A Springfield Road resident said: "One officer said they've found something they're not happy with, don't know what it is."

The cordon was lifted at 5.30pm and residents were allowed back into their homes. Police thanked them for their cooperation and said the man was still in custody and being questioned.
