A PROVISIONAL licence holder made the "daft" decision to drive home from a friend's house where she had been drinking.

Blackburn magistrates heard Naomi Swift was more than double the legal drink drive limit.

Swift, 27, of Nutter Road, Accrington, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol without insurance and other than in accordance with a licence. She was fined £161 with £85 costs and £30 victim surcharge and banned from driving for 17 months. A charge of driving without due care and attention was withdrawn after the prosecution offered no evidence.

Graeme Parkinson, defending, said his client admitted driving the short distance from her friend's house.

"It was a daft decision but what she doesn't accept is that her driving was in any way out of the ordinary," said Mr Parkinson.
