A POLICE officer was taken to hospital after suffering hand injuries in an incident in Nelson.

It took place on Bracewell Close in the town at 8.40am on Sunday morning.

Insp Paul Gaynor of Burnley Police said: "We were called to the incident and two males and a female were under the influence of drink and drugs were arrested.

"They were arrested for assaulting a police officer and they were interviewed at Blackburn police station.

"The officer was taken to hospital with a hand injury and they were being checked out.

"This is a daily occurence with police officers getting hurt.

Lancashire Police Armed Response Vehicles tweeted about the incident. It said: "First job of the morning was to respond to a harrowing call for assistance from one of our colleagues in Nelson. Three arrested."
